TAO TE CHING
63
The Tao Te Ching (translating as the Classic of Ways and Virtues ) mysteriously emerged in the third century B.C. and quickly became the classical Chinese way of life. Not much is known about it's author, Lao-tzu, but some people think that he was the "missionary to India" who taught the buddha what was to become Buddhism.
The Tao turned the ancient Chinese people's imagination to a more inclusive harmony with nature. It is a philosophical masterpiece, and has been translated countless times. There is no way of finding or reconstructing anything that would resemble an "original text", as the text has been revised and edited over the centuries and there are now countless versions.
This book may have been written centuries ago but it's concepts and theories live on. It is for this reason that I wanted to study it, section by section. There is a lot to be learnt from it and many people see the topics raised totally differently. This is why I would like your comments as well. We could all learn a lot by dissecting this together.
I will be writing about one small section of the book each day. By clicking on the "Read more hubs by Simon.Ackland" button you will be able to easily pick whichever passage you want to read. Please leave your views and comments in the corresponding comments section.
I hope this book influences you as much as it has me.

I am embarking on a Buddhist path myself. I am still completely unformed in that regard. I'm writing about it on my own Hub and also at my blog http://whiteboysoul.wordpress.com. If you get a chance check it out.
The Tao te Ching is a classic. It is the book that got me started on the path of Eastern wisdom. The other classics of Tao as well (Zhuangzi and Lieh Tzu). Thanks for taking up this project. It will be fun to follow your progress.
To get more followers I recommend that you do some Hub hopping and follow others.
This sounds like a really interesting series to follow as I am constantly looking and studying ancient philosophies. Count me in as an avid follower :)
the hubs are interesting in some ways a little hard to understand guess it will come in time. As your mind needs to understand this kind of writting an riddles

I am looking forward to your series. Hopefully you can turn it into a book. I've just finished Stephen Batchelor's "Verses from the Center" which is a translation and treatise on the Indian Buddhist writer Nagarjuna. It is awesome.
